Spiaggia Torre No2: Pure Adriatic Charm in Ostuni

Just north of Ostuni's famous white hill town, Spiaggia Torre No2 opens onto the Adriatic with an easy grace that feels both timeless and utterly unpretentious. The sand is soft underfoot, the water shifts from pale jade to deeper turquoise as you wade in, and the shoreline curves gently away to reveal low rocky outcrops and patches of wild grasses swaying in the sea breeze.

The Calm of the Adriatic Coast

This stretch of coast feels different from the busier lidos that hug the southern shore. There's no soundtrack of competing radios, no regimented rows of sunbeds. Instead, you'll find families spreading out towels in the morning shade, couples reading under umbrellas they've brought themselves, and solo travelers who've walked down from the coastal road for a mid-afternoon swim.

The water is crystalline and inviting, shallow enough for confident wading but deep enough for proper swimming once you've ventured a few meters out. On calmer days the surface turns glassy, mirroring the sky, and you can see small fish darting between patches of seagrass.

What to Bring and When to Arrive

Because this is a spiaggia libera, you're responsible for your own setup. Bring an umbrella if you're planning to stay past noon—the summer sun is relentless—and pack water, snacks, and anything else you'll want for the day. There are no beach clubs here, and that's part of the appeal.

Arrive early in July and August if you want prime sand real estate; by mid-morning on weekends the beach fills with locals from Ostuni and Brindisi. Shoulder season—late May, early June, and September—offers quieter mornings and gentler light for photography.

Beyond the Beach: Ostuni and the Olive Groves

After a morning by the sea, the drive back up to la città bianca takes less than ten minutes. Ostuni's whitewashed historic center is a maze of narrow lanes, ceramic shops, and cafés serving caffè in ghiaccio (iced coffee sweetened with almond milk). It's worth timing your beach day so you can catch the evening passeggiata through Piazza della Libertà.

The countryside between the coast and the hilltop town is a tapestry of ancient olive groves and masserie—fortified farmhouses that now serve as agriturismi and wine estates. Many offer tastings and farm-to-table dinners if you're planning to linger in the area.

Practical Beach Wisdom

A few small reminders to make the most of your visit:

  • Parking along the coastal road can fill quickly in peak summer; aim to arrive before 9:30 AM or after 4 PM
  • The seabed is mostly sandy with occasional smooth stones—water shoes are optional but can be handy
  • There are no showers or changing facilities, so plan accordingly if you're continuing on to dinner in town
  • The beach faces east, so sunrise here is spectacular if you're an early riser
  • Bring cash for the seasonal fruit and panini vendors who sometimes set up near the access path

Spiaggia Torre No2 won't overwhelm you with amenities or entertainment, and that's precisely why it works. It's a place to swim, read, nap, and let the rhythm of the Adriatic set the pace of your day.
